Кабышулы Габбас

Kabyshuly Gabbas (1935) – writer, translator, winner of «Alash» international literary award

He was born on 9 April in the Ulan district of East Kazakhstan oblast.
In 1955-1965 he worked in the regional newspaper «Didar». In 1966-1974 he worked in the republican newspaper «Kazakh literature». In 1968 he graduated the journalism faculty of the Kazakh State University, in absentia.
Since 1974 he worked as a director of the Kazakh branch of the Literary Fund of the USSR, and later the chief editor of the republican satirical magazine «Ara»-«Bumblebee», the second secretary of the Union of Writers of Kazakhstan.
He writes a humorous, satirical stories, short stories, criticism, art essays, journalism, and articles on various topics.
He is the author of some collections as «Characteristics», «Why does a cat don’t have a beard?», «Laugh, or what?», «Orphan meeting», «Four letters», «Tell all conscience».
He translated into Kazakh language works by A. Chekhov, S. Mikhalkov, works of Ukrainian, Serbian, Turkish, Moldovan writers.
He is the winner of the international literary prize «Alash» (2005).
